Aurora temporarily allowing restaurants to deliver beer, wine

Aurora restaurants with liquor licenses temporarily are allowed to sell beer and wine with their curbside pickup and delivery orders, Mayor Richard Irvin announced Friday.

Irvin issued an executive order that permits certain liquor license holders - for a limited time - to sell up to six cans or bottles of beer and one 1.5-liter bottle of wine with each curbside pickup and delivery order. The alcohol purchase must be made with a minimum food order of $10, excluding any taxes or fees.

Cans and bottles must be labeled for individual sale and also must be in a bag or container for delivery. In addition, alcohol purchases can't be delivered outside Aurora.

Irvin said he wants to help restaurants that have been forced to close their dining rooms because of state-imposed restrictions to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

"I am certain we can continue to work together to keep Aurora as open for business as possible during these challenging times," he said.

The executive order comes as the city launched a "Curbside Aurora" website that features restaurants open for delivery, curbside pickup or carryout. Residents can visit aurora-il.org/restaurants to find a list of registered restaurants.

Other steps the mayor announced Friday include:

• Suspending issuance of parking tickets until the end of the April.

• Suspending issuance of licenses for peddlers and solicitors through April.
