Cook County launches emergency alert text system, hotline

Cook County on Thursday launched "AlertCook," a new emergency alert text system and hotline number to provide residents public health alerts and emergency information related to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Cook County residents can subscribe to the opt-in option by texting "AlertCook" to 888-7777. Doing so automatically enrolls the texter into the new public health and safety messaging service, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said in a prepared statement.

Normal texting rates will apply.

Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) and the Cook County Department of Emergency Management and Regional Security (EMRS) will operate the new alert service, which is available to all Cook County residents.

CCDPH also announced the activation of its COVID-19 hotline and email address for suburban residents to receive answers to frequently asked questions. The number is (708) 633-3319. The email address is ccdph.COVID19@cookcountyhhs.org. Staff will respond to calls and emails between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
