Mosser earns Democratic nod for Kane County State's Attorney

Jamie Mosser, a former 10-year Kane County prosecutor, defeated Junaid "J" Afeef Tuesday in the race for the Democratic nomination for Kane County State's Attorney.

With all precincts reporting, Mosser won by a 2-1 ratio with 27,643 votes to Afeef's 13,771, unofficial results show.

"It's gratifying," said Mosser, thanking her supporters and crediting Afeef. "I had real plans of how we could make changes. I know the departments. I know the people. I know the county."

During the campaign, Mosser argued her experience and familiarity with the state's attorney's office would allow her to hit the ground running, enact strategic changes and carry on some of the programs established by incumbent State's Attorney Joe McMahon.

Afeef, who prosecutes nursing home violations for the state, garnered endorsements from progressive leaders such as Bernie Sanders.

Mosser will face Bob Spence, a Batavia Republican, in the Nov. 3 general election for the 4-year seat. McMahon is not seeking a third term.
