Martinez leading in race for court clerk

State Sen. Iris Y. Martinez was leading late Tuesday in the race for the Democratic nomination for Cook County circuit court clerk.

But votes from a few precincts and those cast early hadn't yet been counted.

The winner will go on to face Republican Barbara Bellar of Burr Ridge in November. Embattled Democratic incumbent Dorothy Brown didn't seek reelection.

With about 92% of precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Martinez leading with 196,528 votes, or about 35%; Michael Cabonargi of Wilmette was second with 154,012 votes, or 27%; Richard Boykin of Oak Park was third with 141,511 votes, or about 25%; and Jacob Meister of Chicago was running last with 74,821 votes, or about 13%.
