Firefighter injured, several pets killed in Lombard fire

A Lombard firefighter suffered a minor injury in a Tuesday morning blaze that killed multiple pets inside a single-family house on the 1000 block of South Westmore-Meyers Road.

Firefighters were notified of the fire at 10:34 a.m. and arrived on scene two minutes later, Lombard fire officials said, and it took nearly 30 minutes to get the blaze under control.

The injury to the firefighter was described as minor and treated at the scene.

A resident inside the home told authorities the fire began in a back bedroom where fire officials said "multiple pets perished."

The home suffered approximately $100,000 in damage and was deemed uninhabitable.

In all, eight other fire departments assisted Lombard firefighters.
