Wheaton Warrenville District 200 cancels athletic events, concerts

Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200 has canceled all athletic competitions for its middle and high schools, including away games, as a result of coronavirus concerns.

In making the decision, district officials say they're following recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to limit exposure to large gatherings.

"We are in the process of getting updated guidance from the DuPage County Health Department and are preparing an updated communication to share with our entire community," officials said in a statement Thursday.

The district also has canceled concerts, performances and large group, community events at the elementary, middle and high schools.

However, after-school clubs activities and practices will continue as scheduled.

The district serves students in preschool, 13 elementary schools, four middle schools and two high schools.
