Dog dies in Carol Stream house fire

Carol Stream fire officials said a dog died in an early Thursday morning house fire on the 100 block of Thunderbird Trail.

Fire Chief Robert Schultz said the two residents of the house escaped unharmed, but a dog was found dead as firefighters fought the blaze that was reported at about 2 a.m. No other injuries were reported.

Schultz said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it caused significant damage to the single-story home.

The fire began in a utility room in the back of the house and had burned through the roof by the time firefighters arrived, Schultz said.

Firefighters had the blaze under control within 15 minutes of arrival but were on scene for two hours in all. The house was deemed uninhabitable. Damage estimates to the structure were also unknown, Schultz said.
