Buffalo Grove hires new finance director

Buffalo Grove officials announced Wednesday that Christopher Black will be the village's new director of finance and general services.

Black will begin in April, taking over the role left open when Scott Anderson left in June to become Barrington's village manager.

"The village went through an extensive search over the last several months to locate the right individual to lead our finance department," Village Manager Dane Bragg said in an announcement of the hire. "Christopher has an excellent blend of professional experiences with a range of leadership positions that made him our absolute best candidate."

Black has more than 20 years of experience working for local government and public organizations. Most recently, he was the finance director for the Rock River Water Reclamation District in Rockford. Prior to that, he was vice president and chief financial officer at Rock Valley College, the finance director for the City of Rockford, and the city administrator for McHenry.

"I am honored to have been chosen amongst a field of highly qualified candidates to be the next finance director for the Village of Buffalo Grove. I believe my experiences will serve me very well in this role," Black said.

Black holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Indiana University and has a Certified Public Financial Officer (CPFO) designation from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). He also serves on the board of directors for Goodwill Industries of Illinois, a volunteer position he has held since 2012.
