Lindenhurst woman identified as victim of fatal Gurnee crash
A 69-year-old Lindenhurst woman has been identified as the person killed Thursday in a two-vehicle crash on Washington Street in Gurnee, Lake County authorities said Monday.
Preliminary autopsy results indicate Joan Lowry died as result of injuries suffered in the crash, Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said.
"We have been in close contact with Ms. Lowry's family and our deepest condolences go out to them during this difficult time. This is truly a tragedy," he added.
According to Gurnee police, Lowry was a passenger in a 2002 GMC Envoy traveling eastbound on Washington Street when it crossed into oncoming traffic near Cemetery Road at about 4:50 p.m. Thursday and collided head-on with a 2013 Toyota Sienna.
The GMC's driver, a 71-year-old man, and the Toyota's driver, a 37-year-old woman, were hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries, authorities said.
The crash remains under investigation by the coroner's office, the Gurnee Police Department and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.
