Interim label removed as Wauconda library board chooses new director
The Wauconda Area Library's interim director has been tapped to lead the facility on a more permanent basis.
The library board on Wednesday named Elizabeth Greenup as the organization's next director.
Formerly the assistant director, Greenup has been interim director since Tom Kern retired in September. Kern was the library's director for 27 years.
Greenup's job performance earned praise from library Trustee Jason Laureys.
"I believe Elizabeth possesses a strong bond with our staff, has continued to prove her commitment to our organization and has a firm understanding of the challenges we face moving forward," Laureys said.
Greenup assumed the new role Wednesday night after the board's vote.
Greenup didn't respond to a request for a comment about the promotion.
A Downers Grove firm called HR Source led the search for candidates. It interviewed six applicants, board President William Pankey said in an email to library employees that was shared with the Daily Herald.
After reviewing the firm's reports, the board felt Greenup was "the best fit for our organization," Pankey wrote.
"Elizabeth has the full support of the board and we look forward to a long, productive and collaborative relationship," Pankey wrote.
Trustees don't intend to name a new assistant director to replace Greenup. She will largely assume the duties of both jobs, Laureys said.
The library district serves about 27,000 residents in Wauconda, Island Lake, Port Barrington, Lake Barrington, Lakemoor and Volo. Located at 801 N. Main St., the 27,500-square-foot facility has an annual circulation of about 518,000.
