Endorsement: Ramey for Republicans in state House Dist. 45

We last saw Republican political veteran Randy Ramey in a legislative campaign when he lost a heated primary for a Senate seat to Carole Pankau in 2012.

Ramey, of Carol Stream, who had left his state representative position, stepped away from the legislative scene, but has stayed involved as a Wayne Township Republican committeeman and was elected township supervisor in 2017. Now, he's moving back into the mix for a return to Springfield, seeking the party nomination for state representative from the 45th District, and his prior legislative experience gives him a strong leg up against challenger Michael E. Camerer.

Ramey's legislative career was marred by a DUI conviction in 2011. He took responsibility and apologized for the mistake, and over four terms as a state representative, built a solidly conservative legislative record. Now, he speaks with experience and authority about issues from pension reform, state spending and income taxes to ethics and redistricting reform.

The district runs roughly in a straight line west from Wood Dale to Wayne with a slight turn north to Bartlett. The winner of the primary will face one-term incumbent Democrat Diane Pappas, of Itasca.

Camerer, a chiropractor and seven-year Bartlett village board member, has done his homework on the political and financial issues facing the state, but he can't match the level of insight and sophistication that Ramey brings to the discussion. Ramey is endorsed.
