Career Day at Butterfield School gives students insight into various jobs

The halls at Butterfield School in Libertyville were alive with dreams of what could be Friday as more than 20 people shared their life experiences with students on Career Day.

The students discovered special little job details from each volunteer as they passed between four different 30-minute sessions throughout the morning.

Did you know that a squash ball can travel up to 170 miles per hour when hit? A giant "KERPLOP" vibrated and echoed through the school gymnasium as professional squash player and coach Aidan Harrison of Lake Forest smacked a squash ball off the padded wall while offering up such facts.

Did you know that you should keep your weight close to the wall when climbing? That's just one of the small things that climber Joe Jarosz of Libertyville taught the kids. And, he said, "It's better to climb with your legs because those muscles are much stronger than your arms."

Kenosha pediatrician Frank Serrecchia talked about the different ways to take someone's temperature.

"Your body temperature can differ depending on where you record it," he explained.

All of which left students to dream of their futures in an array of careers.
