Man crashes into street sweeper in Volo, suffers severe injuries

A 59-year-old Wisconsin man was critically injured Tuesday afternoon when he crashed a car into the back of a street sweeper in Volo.

Lake County sheriff's officials said the unidentified man was driving south on Route 12 near Brandenburg Road about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday when he drove a 2009 Chevrolet Aveo into the back of slow-moving street sweeper.

The driver of the street sweeper, identified as a 43-year-old man from Elk Grove Village, was uninjured.

The injured driver was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. There is no word of citations being issued to either driver.
