Zion woman killed in hit-and-run crash in Waukegan

Waukegan police are searching for the driver of a vehicle they believe struck and killed a pedestrian Wednesday afternoon then drive away from the scene.

Officers discovered the pedestrian, a Zion woman in her 40s, at about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday when called to the area of Sheridan Road and Greenwood Avenue about a person lying in the roadway, police said.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she died from her injuries, according to police.

Investigators believe the woman was walking south on Sheridan when she was hit by a vehicle.

They also believe that a dark SUV was involved, but do not know to what extent, police said.

The victim's identity is being withheld pending proper family notification and an autopsy scheduled for Friday.
