$100K bail for Aurora man charged with solication for murder for hire

A 23-year-old Aurora man is held at the Kane County jail on $100,000 bail after his arrest for solicitation for murder for hire.

Andy Lopez, of the 600 block of Watson Street, is accused of posting on a social media app a request Jan. 22 offering $1,000 for someone to kill a specific person, according to Kane County prosecutors.

No one was injured. Lopez was arrested and charged Sunday, according to court records.

If convicted, Lopez faces a sentence of between six and 30 years in prison with no possibility of probation. He is next due in court Thursday.

Kane County Circuit Judge René Cruz set Lopez's bail Sunday. Lopez must post $10,000 to be released from jail while the charges are pending. If he does, he is to surrender any firearms and his Firearm Owner's Identification card and not have any contact with his intended victim, according to prosecutors and court records.

Lopez does not have any previous felony arrests or convictions in Kane County, records show, but he does have misdemeanor arrests in 2018 for cannabis and drug paraphernalia possession.
