Temporary closure of Old Grand Avenue in Gurnee begins Jan. 20

A portion of Old Grand Avenue in Gurnee will be closed starting on Monday, Jan, 20, due to scheduled maintenance on the Canadian Pacific Railroad Bridge, officials say.

CN expects the work to be completed by Feb. 5.

The bridge maintenance project will require closure of Old Grand Avenue between O'Plaine Road and North First Street to ensure the safety of the public and to provide crews a safe work environment. Traffic on Old Grand Avenue will be detoured to take Route 132/Grand Avenue.

The maintenance project will repair the concrete ballast from a vehicular strike that occurred in December. The concrete that was damaged does not pose a structural risk to the bridge.

Access to Viking Middle School, Viking Park and local businesses will remain open throughout the project via Old Grand Avenue and O'Plaine Road.
