Man arrested after report of shots fired in Highland Park
Highland Park police are investigating what they believe to be shots fired and arrested a man for unlawful possession of a firearm early Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Highland Park officers were working on parking complaint on the 1400 block of Ridge Road when they heard what sounded like gunshots around 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from the city. The officers located a large party close by at a short-term rental home and interviewed people there. But they couldn't verify witnesses or victims, and several people left the area, the release said.
Officers stopped a vehicle speeding away from the party, and a passenger ran, according to the release.
Keymon D. Shanklin, 22, of the 6700 block of South Claremont Avenue in Chicago, ultimately was arrested near Deerfield Road and Carlisle Avenue in Deerfield.
Shanklin was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm but hasn't been charged with firing the shots, the release said.
