Prospect Heights outlines location for future recreational marijuana dispensary

The Prospect Heights City Council has approved three locations where a recreational marijuana dispensary can be established, Prospect Heights Mayor Nick Helmer announced.

The new business could be established along Rand Road; on the northwest corner of Elmhurst and Palatine Road; or along Milwaukee Avenue, according to a Friday news release.

The council adopted rules earlier this month to dictate where a potential dispensary could go. The rules prohibit the dispensary be within 750 feet of a nursery or school.

Although there are three locations a new dispensary could go, Prospect Heights would only have one such business at a time under the current rules.

The new dispensary would likely be located along some of the highest traffic areas in the city. According to Prospect Heights' website, the average daily traffic count along Rand Road is 27,800 vehicles per day; the count along Milwaukee Avenue, at Palatine Road, is 26,100 vehicles per day; and the count along Palatine Road, at Milwaukee Avenue, is 41,200 vehicles per day.

The city of Prospect Heights asked residents for feedback through an online survey in October before setting the rules.
