North Chicago drug, weapons arrest

A North Chicago man faces felony drug and weapons charges after his arrest stemming from an investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Special Investigations Group. Ruben A. Garcia, 30, of the 1200 block of Lincoln Street, was arrested Dec. 19 after authorities conducted a search warrant and found him in possession of nearly 30 grams of powder cocaine packaged for distribution, two semi-automatic pistols, ammunition and drug paraphernalia, according to a news release Friday. Garcia, a documented street gang member, has been charged with armed habitual criminal, unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, all felonies, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, according to the release. He is held in the Lake County jail on $350,000 bail. He's next due in court Jan. 8.
