Longtime U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky now alone on Democratic primary ballot

Andrew Tarnasiewicz-Heldut of Chicago has withdrawn from next year's Democratic primary to challenge longtime U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Evanston.

Illinois State Board of Elections records show Tarnasiewicz-Heldut withdrew Dec. 17 amid an objection that was lodged regarding his candidate petition.

Schakowsky is in her 11th two-year term in the 9th Congressional District seat, which represents all or parts of Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Prospect Heights and Des Plaines, as well as portions of Chicago and the North Shore.

Tarnasiewicz-Heldut's withdrawal leaves Schakowsky alone on the Democratic primary ballot. The general election is in November.
