Interfaith forum Jan. 10 on protecting places of worship

The Lake County state's attorney's office, U.S. Department of Justice Community Relations Service, city of Waukegan and Waukegan Police Department will host an interfaith forum at the Genesee Theatre next month.

"Protecting Places of Worship" will feature a discussion of ways to prevent and respond to hate crimes against places of worship. The forum will include an overview of religious hate crimes, how to fortify an emergency plan for places of worship, and how to prevent and respond to active shooter situations.

Speakers will include Lake County State's Attorney Michael Nerheim, Waukegan Mayor Sam Cunningham, Waukegan Police Chief Wayne Walles, Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg and federal law enforcement officials.

The event is free and will run from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 10. The Genesee Theatre is at 203 N Genesee St., Waukegan.
