Police: 14-year-old shot in Elgin
A 14-year-old is hospitalized after being shot in Elgin Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Officers were called to Washburn and Billings streets around 4 p.m. for multiple reports of shots fired, according to a post on the Elgin Police Department's Facebook page.
The 14-year-old victim was found in a vehicle at Highland Avenue and State street and taken to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.
Detectives say the preliminary investigation shows shots were fired from at least one vehicle toward another, the victim was not the intended target and the shooting was not a random act.
The area around the intersection of State and Highland was closed for the investigation but was open again by 4:50 p.m.
Anyone with information about the shooting should call Sergeant Lesko at (847) 289-2528 or send an anonymous text to 847411 and include ElginPD at the beginning.
