Palatine police announce results of traffic safety crackdown

Palatine police have announced results of a traffic safety campaign that wrapped around Thanksgiving Day.

From Nov. 22 through Monday, officers issued 168 seat belt citations, 29 speeding ticket and 28 citations for illegal use of a cellular phone while driving. Police also issued five uninsured motorist tickets, made one DUI arrest, seven felony/misdemeanor arrests, two drug arrests and one apprehension of a fugitive.

Extra emphasis was placed on enforcement during late-night hours, when statistics show the most unbuckled and impaired driving fatalities occur. The crackdown was paid with federal highway safety funds administered through the Illinois Department of Transportation as part of the nationwide "Click It or Ticket" and "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaigns.
