Chicago man charged with trying to rob Downers Grove bank

Bond has been set at $100,000 for a Chicago man accused of trying to rob a bank in Downers Grove, officials said.

Simeon Harris, 35, of the 2600 block of S. Indiana Avenue, has been charged with one count of attempted robbery and one count of burglary, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's office. He is currently on probation for a federal bank robbery.

Officials say that Harris entered West Suburban Bank on the 5300 block of Main street at 5:39 p.m. Dec. 2 and passed a note to the teller that said "This is a robbery. No silent alarms, No die (sic) packs or trace money. Empty drawer."

However, when the bank employee told Harris she couldn't open the drawer to give him money, Harris took back the note and walked out of the bank entrance, according to the release. Downers Grove police officers saw Harris outside the bank and caught him after a brief chase.

Harris is next scheduled to be in court Dec. 20 in Wheaton.
