Man shot near Aurora

A 24-year-old Oswego man was shot early Monday by an unknown assailant in an unincorporated area of Kane County near Aurora.

The man was taken to an Aurora hospital with injuries that authorities said are not considered to be life threatening.

Kane County sheriff's officials said the man was in the back seat of a car parked on the 1200 block of Summit Avenue at about 1:40 a.m. when someone opened fire on the car. Authorities said the driver of the car attempted to flee, but got stuck in a culvert. The driver and another passenger in the front seat were uninjured.

Authorities deployed search dogs and drones in an attempt to locate the shooter, but were unsuccessful.

Sheriff's officials said the motive is unknown.
