District 220 officials to address security proposals before state board association

Barrington Area Unit District 220's elected officials are expected to decide Tuesday night how they want a delegate to vote on security-related resolutions at the Illinois Association of School Boards' annual convention in Chicago. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at District 220's administration center, 515 W. Main St., in Barrington. One resolution up for a vote at the convention Saturday would encourage state legislation allowing individual school boards to decide whether to permit armed teachers and other staff members in their districts. The other proposal would encourage lawmakers to create and fund a statewide grant program to help districts hire school resource officers or other armed security. District 220 board members have received community feeback on both sides of the security proposals.
