Juvenile charged with making threats to Naperville school

A juvenile accused of threatening violence against Wheatland Academy in Naperville was charged with disorderly conduct Friday by the Will County State's Attorney's office, Naperville police said.

The suspect was taken into custody Thursday after a police investigation.

Police said they will not release details about the suspect nor details pertaining to the threats because the youth is being processed through the juvenile court system.

"Our department will actively investigate and pursue charges against anyone who makes a threat to the safety of our school communities," Deputy Chief Jason Arres said in a written statement. "Threats of school violence are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

"I cannot stress enough the need for parents to talk to their children about the seriousness and potential consequences of such statements because we will continue to take them seriously and take necessary action to ensure the safety of our schools."

Wheatland Academy at 3003 W. 103rd St. is operated by Indian Prairie Unit District 204 and mainly serves fourth-year students from Metea Valley, Neuqua Valley and Waubonsie Valley high schools who are behind in their credits with the goal of helping them graduate with their class. District 204 serves students from Naperville, Aurora, Bolingbrook and Plainfield.

Police are encouraging anyone with information about any threat to an individual or school community to immediately call 911.
