Berwyn man accused of hitting Elgin woman, injuring her daughter

A Berwyn man faces battery charges for hitting his girlfriend and injuring her daughter who tried to intervene, authorities said Monday.

Darius J. Fizer, 28, of the 1500 block of Grove Avenue, is charged with felony aggravated battery to a child and four misdemeanor counts of domestic battery, battery and assault.

About 2:30 a.m. Saturday, Fizer put the girl, who is younger than 13, in a chokehold, struck and injured her, threw a bottle at the girl, and punched her mother, Kane County prosecutors allege.

Elgin police said Fizer and his girlfriend began to argue at the girlfriend's Elgin home, waking the woman's daughter. The girl called 911. She saw Fizer strike her mother so she threw a pot at him, police said.

Fizer threw a glass liquor bottle at the girl but missed her. The bottle embedded in the bathroom door. Fizer then put the girl in a chokehold and punched her, police said.

Fizer's bail was set at $50,000. He must pay a $5,000 bond to be released. Fizer remains in custody at the Kane County jail.

His next court appearance is set for 9 a.m. Nov. 7 in Courtroom 311 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
