Libertyville Theater discussions resume Oct. 28

Libertyville's Historic Preservation Commission will resume discussions Oct. 28 on the request by the owner of the Libertyville Theater property to demolish the building.

Because the 82-year-old theater building sits within a designated historic district, the demolition request must be reviewed by the Historic Preservation Commission, which will make a recommendation to the village board for a final decision.

The property's owners submitted a demolition request to the village in August. The commission began discussions on the request in September, during a hearing which drew about 40 people hoping the historic theater building could be saved from the wrecking ball.

The owners are willing to sell or lease the building under the right circumstances, according to a representative, but no formal proposals have been made.

The meeting will be held at 7. m. Monday, Oct. 28, at the Libertyville Civic Center, 135 W. Church St., Libertyville.
