Naperville woman dies after crash

A Naperville woman who was gravely injured in a crash Tuesday afternoon has died, authorities said.

Jacqueline L. Steffeter, 66, suffered injuries about 1:10 p.m., Naperville police said, when her vehicle was struck by another car in the intersection of Hobson and Wehrli roads on the city's east side.

A preliminary investigation indicates Steffeter was driving north on Wehrli Road and disobeyed a traffic signal when her Subaru Forester was struck by a Subaru Outback that was heading west on Hobson Road, driven by a 21-year-old Streamwood man.

Steffeter was taken to a hospital, and so were two passengers in her vehicle and a passenger in the Streamwood man's vehicle. Only Steffeter's injuries were considered life-threatening, police said.

Police closed the intersection of Hobson and Wehrli for more than three hours Tuesday afternoon as they reconstructed and investigated the crash, which took place at a crossing that includes The Compass Church's Hobson Campus, as well as a forest preserve and backyards from two residential subdivisions.

No citations or charges have been filed, and the Naperville Police Department's traffic unit continues to investigate. Anyone who saw the crash or has information about is asked to contact the traffic unit at (630) 420-8833.
