North Barrington mayor replaces village administrator

North Barrington Village President Eleanor Sweet McDonnell says she expects a change in top management at village hall to result in better service for residents.

Longtime North Barrington employee Kathy Nelander had been the village administrator and clerk. However, Sweet McDonnell announced Monday she's replacing Nelander.

"After taking office this spring, I have been reviewing village operations and have selected Shannon Andrews to serve as interim village (administrator) and clerk for the village," Sweet McDonnell said. "We look forward to strengthening the services provided to village residents. This does represent a change in village personnel."

Sweet McDonnell didn't elaborate about Nelander, saying "the village respects the privacy of its employees and does not make specific comments regarding employment matters."

Nelander could not be reached for comment.

An amended agenda item for the North Barrington village board's Wednesday night meeting seeks approval of a resolution appointing Andrews as clerk and collector. There also is a resolution seeking approval of an "employee leasing agreement" with Northbrook-based GovTempUSA, which provides interim staffing for jobs such as city or village administrator.
