Arlington Heights buildings awarded for design excellence

Two buildings in Arlington Heights have received the Alan F. Bombick Award for Excellence in Design from the village's design commission.

Kensington School, 840 E. Kensington Road, received an award in the commercial category for its new construction private nursery, preschool and kindergarten. During a presentation at a village board meeting Monday, design commission member Ted Eckhardt praised the project team for the building's classical style and materials, setting it aside from a typical preschool.

The single-family residential award went to the Belcher residence, 638 N. Highland Ave., for the extensive restoration and expansion of the Victorian-era home.

Bombick's family was present for the ceremony. He was a founding member of the commission in 1995 and served until his passing in 2016.
