Carp fishing contest Saturday in Libertyville

A carp fishing contest is set for Saturday at the Independence Grove Forest Preserve near Libertyville.

Not only is the all-ages event fun for fans of the sport, it's designed to reduce the high carp population in the lake there. That would help restore the balance of like in the lake.

The event will run from 6:30 a.m. to noon. Cash prizes will be awarded for the largest total of carp caught and for the heaviest single carp. Registration is $10 per person at the marina. Parking is free for Lake County residents but $10 for anyone else. A valid Illinois fishing license is required for anyone 16 or older.

Independence Grove is at 16400 W. Buckley Road in Libertyville. Call (847) 968-3499 for more information.
