Deck fire damages exterior of Bartlett home

A fire Thursday evening in Bartlett damaged the exterior of a home in the 1100 block of Driftwood Lane, the Bartlett Fire District said in a news release.

Firefighters were called at 7:24 p.m. and found smoke coming from the rear of a two-story, single-family home. They found a deck on fire near an arcing electrical meter, the release said. All occupants were out of the home. The fire, which damaged the deck and the exterior wall, was declared under control at 7:57 p.m.

According to the release, the building is habitable and the fire remains under investigation. Damage estimates were not available.

The fire was fought by 25 firefighters, staffing four fire engines, two ladder trucks, and two ambulances which responded along with four command officers and two fire investigators. Units from the Carol Stream, Hanover Park and Bloomingdale Fire Departments were among the initial responders.

The Bartlett Fire District reminded people to close doors to prevent fire spread within a building. Have an escape plan, practice it, and be prepared to use it in the event of any fire.
