Oakton hosting vigil against hate and violence Wednesday

Oakton Community College will host a vigil at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday supporting solidarity against hate and violence.

The vigil will take place in the main lobby of the college's Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road. It will begin with opening remarks from Oakton President Joianne Smith, followed by comments from students.

It also will include a moment of silence for victims of hate as well as the introduction of a tree of remembrance that will honor those lost in violent acts.

After the vigil, there will be a pop-up critical conversation called "Hate in the U.S.," at the Center for Campus Inclusion and Diversity (CCID), in Room 1433. The conversation will be facilitated by Juletta Patrick, assistant vice president for student affairs/dean of access, equity and diversity.
