Hoffman Estates hosts Germanfest Sept. 6-8

Hoffman Estates' 14th annual Oktoberfest-themed Platzkonzert Germanfest returns Sept. 6, 7 and 8 with three days of authentic German music, food and beer at the Virginia Mary Hayter Village Green.

Join the mayor and trustees for the ceremonial "tapping of the keg" to kick off the weekend at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6.

The family fun continues all weekend long, with lively traditional music in the oompah tent. On Saturday and Sunday, bring the kids to the Kinderplatz to enjoy free bounce houses, face-painting and chalkboard drawing.

On Saturday, adults can compete in the stein-carrying, hot dog-eating and stein-hoisting contests to win prizes. Live music continues until the early evening on Sunday.

Platzkonzert revelers can sign up for drawings to win gift cards from local businesses.
