Buffalo Grove Community Pageant set for Aug. 8

The Buffalo Grove Community Pageant will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 8, at the Buffalo Grove Park District Community Arts Center, 225 McHenry Road.

The pageant is an opportunity for the young women of Buffalo Grove to participate in community events, improve public speaking and communication skills, along with achieving goals and obtaining life skills.

Sue Staranowicz, director of the Lake County Community Pageant, said Buffalo Grove is one of 15 towns in the system. Each town will crown four girls, who will be eligible for the Lake County pageant in November. All 60 girls perform service work in the community, participating in events such as the Lake County Honor Flight.

To promote the upcoming event, last year's pageant winners Rachel Becker (Miss division), Riley Heydenburg (Teen Miss division) and Rachel Anand (Junior Miss division), as well as Robin Marshall, the event's director, paid a recent visit to the Buffalo Grove village board.
