Bartlett man charged in fatal Elgin crash
A Bartlett man who turned himself in to the police Monday was charged with driving under the influence and causing a fatal crash in Elgin in December.
Brian Spina, 41, of the 900 block of Shorewood Drive, caused a three-vehicle crash Dec. 18 at East Chicago Street and Poplar Creek Drive that killed his passenger, 41-year-old Amanda Pryer of Elgin, according to a news release from the Elgin Police Department. Spina was driving with a suspended license from a previous DUI, police said.
Spina veered his Volvo S60 into oncoming traffic and struck a 2013 Chevrolet Express van head on, causing it to crash into a 2011 Kia Soul, police said. The driver of the van, a 32-year-old man from Elgin, was taken to Presence St. Joseph in Elgin with nonlife-threatening injuries. The driver of the KIA, whose age and hometown weren't provided, wasn't injured.
Spina was charged with two counts of felony aggravated DUI involving death and two counts of felony aggravated DUI while license revoked/suspended, according to the news release.
His bond was set at $150,000.
