Good Samaritans rescue man on I-88 after pickup truck flips over

ABC 7 Chicago

A group of good Samaritans came to the rescue of a driver of a pickup truck that flipped over Monday morning on I-88 in Oak Brook.

Video from ABC 7 shows a maroon Ford Ranger pickup truck turning over after a tire blowout in the westbound lanes of the Reagan Memorial Tollway near the York road exit at about 6:47 a.m.

Passing drivers, including several construction workers, got out of their vehicles and flipped the pickup truck back on its side.

Tom Meyers was leaving his full-time firefighting job in Rosemont for his part-time firefighting job in Aurora Township when he came upon the crash. Meyers pulled up after the pickup truck had been rolled up onto its passenger's side and rushed into action.

"At that point, I knew we had to get the windshield and try to cut the seatbelt," Meyers said.

Using the tools from the construction workers, Meyers and the others broke the windshield and tore off the driver's seatbelt, freeing him.
