A Jimmy John's delivery driver's vehicle was stolen Monday during a lunchtime delivery in Palatine and hasn't yet been recovered, authorities said.

Palatine police Cmdr. Bryce Baker described the theft as a crime of opportunity. The delivery driver had left her 2018 Honda Civic unlocked and with the keys inside while dropping off an order at 12:41 p.m. Monday at the Motel 6, 1450 E. Dundee Road.

The car was out of the 57-year-old Palatine woman's sight for about five minutes, Baker said.

A manager of the Jimmy John's at 746 E. Dundee Road in Palatine confirmed the car is owned by the driver, not the restaurant.
