Two more District 59 principals appointed

Elk Grove Township Elementary District 59 has appointed two more principals ahead of the start of the school year.

Kimberly Barrett is the new principal at Brentwood Elementary. She takes over for Mike Merritt, the 2019 Illinois Elementary Principal of the Year who left to become superintendent in Gardner Elementary District 72-C in Grundy County.

Barrett has been executive director of literacy in instruction in District 59 for the last two years, and has worked for the district since 2014. She will be paid $119,806.

Joshua Segura, who was dean of students at Rolling Meadows High School for the last eight years, is the new principal at John Jay Elementary, replacing Laura Sandoval, who left for East Aurora District 131. He will be paid $125,000.

They join three other new principals in the district appointed earlier this year by the school board.
