Hawthorn's Enrichment Institute opens to capacity crowd in Vernon Hills

The first of Hawthorn Elementary School District 73's two Hawthorn Enrichment Institute summer school sessions kicked off this week with about 300 students participating.

Students in kindergarten through eighth grade select four classes from a mix of core academics and fun activities to take during the two-week sessions at Townline Elementary School in Vernon Hills. Both sessions are at capacity.

Nineteen teachers are heading up the classes, which include Art with FUNctionality, Alphabet Art, Silly Science, Hands on Math, Super Science Exploration, Dance Fusion and Bass Fishing/Outdoor Adventures. There are about 80 classes to choose from.

District 73 also is holding a band and orchestra music camp from July 22 to Aug. 2 at Middle School South.
