Girls hone soccer skills in Libertyville with help from the pros

Soccer fans following the FIFA Women's World Cup France 2019 are looking forward to Friday's quarterfinal match between the U.S. and France.

But closer to home, girls are chasing their own dreams and honing skills at a soccer camp in Libertyville.

The Chicago Red Stars are hosting a series of day camps in the suburbs, including a four-day program this week at the Libertyville Sports Complex. Campers, ranging in age from 6 to 18, already play in local clubs or school programs. The camp is structured to take the players to the next level.

Stars reserve team player Maddie Alexander has been running the participants through a series of "skill development and tactical awareness" sessions used by their coaches.

The Chicago Red Stars are members of the National Women's Soccer League. Home matches are played at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview.
