District 15 boundaries task force has preliminary ideas

Preliminary ideas have been presented by a 35-member volunteer group studying possible boundary changes at Palatine Township Elementary District 15. The advisory group so far has four basic concepts for new boundaries at District 15, which is an issue the school board ultimately will decide. Officials said the group's work also will assist in a decision on whether to purchase empty space at the Park Place mall at Rand and Dundee roads in Palatine where a new school for kindergarten through sixth grade would be created. Stuckey Construction Co. Inc. of Waukegan would buy the Park Place space for about $4.1 million and spend another $13.8 million renovating it. District 15 would lease the building with an option to buy it within seven years if the idea receives school board approval. Officials said no boundary alterations would occur before the 2021-22 academic season, at the earliest.
