Arlington Heights spa receives liquor license

Forbici Salon and Spa in downtown Arlington Heights will be the first cosmetic business in town where patrons will be able to sip glasses of wine and beer while getting manicures and pedicures.

The village board this week issued its first Class O liquor license - available to any cosmetologist, nail technician or barbershop who qualifies - to Forbici owner Jackie Lewis. She says patrons have continued to ask for the amenity while they enjoy a day at the spa, 7 S. Highland Ave.

"Some people go on the golf course and some people go to the salon," said Lewis, who opened the salon in 1993. "It's just something added for experience."

The board created the new liquor license classification at Lewis' request in February. Other towns, like Barrington, Glenview, Naperville and Niles, already allow salons and spas to sell alcohol.

In Arlington Heights, consumption is limited to two servings per day.

Lewis said she hopes to begin serving alcohol as soon as this month.
