Late-night fire damages vacant Hoffman Estates home

Hoffman Estates authorities are investigating the cause of a fire late Tuesday that caused an estimated $200,000 damage to a vacant home on the north side of the village.

Firefighters called to the home in the 3900 block of North Charlemagne Drive at 11:39 p.m. arrived to find some coming from the rear of the one-story, single-family home. Investigation by the first arriving fire officer found the fire in the basement of the home.

After the fire was knocked down from the exterior, fire companies went inside to find parts of the floor were burned through. Upon the arrival of further responding companies, one additional hose line was extended to extinguish the remaining fire.

No one was found in the home and a neighbor told firefighters no one was living there, according to the fire department. The home was not equipped with a sprinkler system, officials said.

The Hoffman Estates Fire Department responded with 22 firefighters and were assisted at the scene by the Palatine and Palatine Rural fire departments. Elk Grove, Hanover Park, Barrington Countryside, and Elgin fire departments assisted providing station coverage.
