Palatine man sentenced to probation for possessing child pornography
A former resident of a Rolling Meadows supportive living facility was sentenced to two years of probation after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography.
As part of his plea agreement, Gary Schar, 74, now of Palatine, is prohibited from contact with minors, using a computer and accessing the internet, court records show. He also must register as a sex offender.
Employees of the supportive living facility were assisting Schar with his printer last June when they noticed inappropriate searches, prosecutors said. The employees informed a supervisor who called police. A subsequent search of Schar's laptop and external hard drives revealed more than 200 images of child pornography, prosecutors said.
Schar, who had no previous criminal records, also was ordered to pay $734 in fines.
