Lake County sheriff to launch Latino Citizens Police Academy

Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg announced Thursday his office will hold its inaugural Latino Citizens Police Academy beginning June 5.

The six-week program will be held at the sheriff's substation in Libertyville. It is open to all Lake County residents aged 18 or older, of good moral character and with no felony convictions.

The free program will be instructed by Spanish-speaking members of the sheriff's office. Participants will get an in-depth view of all sheriff's office responsibilities, including corrections, highway patrol, court security, criminal investigations, crash investigations, evidence processing and more.

The application deadline is May 31. To apply, please fill out the materials online at www.cognitoforms.com/LakeCountySheriffsOffice1/latinopoliceacademy.

" One of my promises to the community was to increase partnerships with all of the people we serve, and I believe this is another step toward connecting with our community," Idleburg said in an announcement of the program. "It's my goal for everyone in Lake County to see the terrific work performed every day by members of the Lake County Sheriff's Office."
