Lake County Board hires new chief assessment officer
A former township assessor is Lake County's new chief assessment officer.
Robert S. Glueckert, who briefly served as Avon Township assessor in 2011, was named to the post Tuesday. The Grayslake resident was selected by county board Chairwoman Sandy Hart and then approved by the full board at its meeting in Waukegan.
"Welcome, Bob," Hart said after the vote. "We're thrilled to have you."
Glueckert, a real estate broker who unsuccessfully ran for the county board's 13th District seat as a Democrat in 2012, made no comment during the discussion of his hiring. He couldn't be reached for comment afterward.
The chief assessment officer oversees the work of the county's independent township assessors, who are responsible for valuing property for tax purposes. The office also mails annual assessment notices to taxpayers and processes homestead exemption applications, among other tasks.
Additionally, the office supports the assessment appeals process, which is conducted by the county board of review.
Glueckert replaces Marty Paulson, who announced his retirement in April and stepped down effective Monday. Paulson had the job for 16 years.
Glueckert, who previously served as a Lake County Board of Review member, will collect a $130,334 annual salary in his new post.
He received support during Tuesday's board meeting from several local assessment experts, including Grant Township Assessor Jeri Barr.
