Learn about Des Plaines River Trail improvements in Cook County at open house

The Forest Preserves of Cook County is hosting an open house Thursday to inform the public about options for improvements along the Des Plaines River Trail at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing between Golf and Central roads in Des Plaines.

The event is set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Des Plaines Public Library, 1501 Ellinwood Ave., Des Plaines,

The forest preserves is completing preliminary engineering for improving the rail crossing between Golf and Central, where there is a trail gap. The railroad tracks north of Golf create a significant interruption to the trail's continuity, present an unsafe environment for trail users and discourage use of the trail by residents of neighboring communities, officials say.

This project is funded by Invest in Cook, and will eliminate the existing gap in the trail at that location.
